Having relocated to the Bay of Islands in 2007 after years of holidaying in the Far North, Barb and her husband, Paul, successfully operated an award-winning bed and breakfast. They share a family with two children and six grandchildren.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Barb is deeply engaged in her community. Her involvement as a swimming coach and referee, sparked by her children's participation, has evolved into more than two decades of dedicated service to Special Olympics - an organization she is truly passionate about. She is also a member of Rotary and tries to play Pickleball.
